When life doesn’t go as planned, and we’re stuck in the in-between, this devotional invites us to anchor our hearts in God’s steady faithfulness, even when our feelings waver.

Scripture Reading

  • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
  • “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23
  • “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

Devotional Thought

Trust can be difficult to maintain in a relationship, especially when things don’t go as we expect or as we want them to. Yet security in our relationship with the Lord can be unshakable. He is faithful in good times and bad. It is our feelings that waver, not the love of our Savior. He is steady and sure, always trustworthy.

When we choose to trust in His faithfulness over our feelings, our hearts are comforted, and our steps feel more secure. The Lord uses all situations to draw us to Himself. Our duty is to trust Him—in all things, at all times, and in all circumstances. Perhaps the deepest trust is formed in periods of waiting.

Waiting for a prayer to be answered. Waiting for healing. Waiting for a prodigal child to come home. Waiting for whatever weighs heavy on your heart. In that space of waiting, when we trust expectantly with confidence that God has our best in mind, we are strengthened. All the enemy’s attacks of fear are rendered powerless. There, we find victory and a peace that surpasses all understanding.
